There are 2 or 3 international car rental companies in Uvita (budget, alamo, and I believe hertz). However, if you want long-term cheap rates, than look for Tricolor Car Rental (http://www.tricolorcarrental.com/) and Adobe Rent a Car (http://www.adobecar.com/) out of San Jose. Adobe Car even offers additional discounts if you become one of their friends on their facebook website. A friend has rented from Adobe several times, and she has been very happy with their value and service. For long term rates, the most basic 4WD starts at $20 per day!
When you are sitting on the deck of the Casa Verde, you will be able to enjoy a beautiful big Guanacaste Tree on the neighboring lot right in front of the house. This tree is not only beautiful but also the national tree of Costa Rica. For more information, visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enterolobium_cyclocarpum.
Our pool and pool house located between our two houses – the River House (www.riverhouseuvita.com) and the Casa Verde is an oasis for young and old. The lounge sofas and hammocks invite for relaxation, reading or conversations about nature or philosophy. The ping pong table and BBQ space allows for gatherings and socializing. There is enough room still for some morning yoga sessions or meditation. The pool contains a saltwater filtering system rather than chlorine, which is soft on your skin and eyes. There are jasmine flowers planted around the pool, which give a unique smell during certain times of the day and seasons. If you think that you are smelling the famous Channel perfume, than look for the two tall trees located next to the pool house and on the path towards the pool house coming from the River House. These trees are Ylang trees from which the channel parfume uses its ingredients. Also – keep in mind that we can help you organize a massage or beauty treatment right by the pool! Sylvia’s concierge service can get you set-up anytime.
Carbohydrate treat, than you will have to take a ride down south to the next town called Ochojal. It’s about a 10-15 minute drive but the town definitely has the best food to offer in the entire south. When we are down there, we always visit the local “French” bakery, which opens on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays. They have amazing French and other types of bread. However, do make sure to call ONE day in advance and order prior to going. The owner won’t be amused if you don’t (and he won’t have any bread for you either ;-). Unfortunately I can’t find his phone number but when you get into Ochojal, go up the main road. Pass Exotica restaurant, keep on the left, pass the small bridge, than turn right and continue on this road. The bakery is on the right hand side. If you are lost, just ask for the French bakery!

I first came to Costa Rica in 1998. I fell in love with the country right away for so many reasons. I have been coming, living and unfortunately never staying off and on since.
